NSW: Police investigate Charlotte Pass for possible sabotage
Police are investigating the possible sabotage of a sewerage plant that has forced
the closure of a New South Wales ski resort.
About 500 guests and 100 staff at Charlotte Pass have been evacuated since sewerage
tanks reached the brink of overflowing yesterday.
An unknown chemical killed off bacteria in the system and caused a build-up of 50,000
litres of untreated sludge.
The Environment Protection Authority says sabotage hasn't been ruled out as a possible
cause of the disaster.
A police spokesman has confirmed that Cooma detectives are at the scene and says police
have an obligation to investigate any allegations that are made.
All guests have to be out of Charlotte Pass by 6pm (AEST) with only a skeleton staff
of around 10 remaining to clean up the resort.
