FAULTY ELECTRIC CABLE SUSPECT AS OUTAGE CUTS POWER TO 4,200.(CAPITAL REGION)

Schenectady The south-central section of the Electric City went dark for just over one hour Sunday night, thanks to a fault in an underground electric cable that blew a manhole cover out of place.

About 4,200 Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. customers were affected by the outage between 7:39 p.m. and 8:44 p.m., said Nick Lyman, a NiMo spokesman.

The power failure darkened homes and street lights in the Woodlawn neighborhood along State Street, from Route 7 to Brandywine Avenue, and along Albany Street and from Henry Street to the Niskayuna town line, said Schenectady Police Sgt. Bob Hamilton.
