Family Honors Slain Soldier's Final Wish

WELLSVILLE, Kan. - The day he became the first Kansas soldier killed in Iraq, Sgt. Jake Butler dashed off a letter to his parents.

"If you are reading this, you know I didn't make it," it started. "I just wanted to say I love you very much and don't forget me because we will meet again..."

It ended: "I love you. Don't forget me."

His parents received the letter after their son's funeral and read it in disbelief. "I didn't get it at the time," said his mother, Cindy Butler. "How could I forget you? But now I know, people move on."

In some ways, the Butlers haven't moved on - and don't want to. For Jim and Cindy Butler, every day since their son's death …
